What is it about?
This study suggests that the feeling of bringing shame to the family is an underlying factor that impacts Asian American and Asian international emerging adults’ psychological distress when taking into account the discrepancy between the family’s standards and whether the individual is able to meet such standards. This study also suggests that a sense of belongingness to one’s ethnic group buffers against family shame for those who experience a discrepancy between family standards and their behaviors.
