What is it about?

We describe how interdependence among team members shapes the way that members interact because it determines how the actions of one individual impacts other group members. We really focused on how there are numerous different types of team in individual sport that can emerge based on interdependencies.

Why is it important?

Because individual sport team types may determine whether group members will cooperate or compete, this research is relevant because it highlights the potential for social influences across activities that may previously have been quite individual because they are performed independently. As a result, this work has implications for how sport teams are formed ranging from youth sport to adult recreational and competitive teams.
