What is it about?
This study tested the long term impact of cyber abuse on posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) for women who sought shelter due to intimate partner violence. More cyber abuse predicted higher PTSD over time. However, cyber abuse alone did not predict PTSD when considering the impact of overall abuse severity. Women who are fleeing to shelter for safety may be impacted by continued cyber abuse.

Why is it important?
Women seeking safety through shelter may continue to be impacted by cyber abuse. Clinicians, shelter workers, and other service providers should assess for cyber abuse and its potential consequences, and empower women to use technology for navigating their safety.
