What is it about?
The City Birth Trauma Scale (City BiTS) is a tool used to assess postpartum posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) based on specific diagnostic criteria. This study aimed to test the validity and reliability of the Italian version of the City BiTS. Results showed that the scale has good internal consistency, reliability, and validity. It can effectively distinguish between different types of delivery and predict certain outcomes, such as the intention to breastfeed. The City BiTS-Italian is the first tool in Italy to diagnose PTSD symptoms related to childbirth, making it a valuable resource for healthcare professionals and researchers.

Why is it important?
The City Birth Trauma Scale (City BiTS) is a valuable tool for assessing childbirth-related posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) based on established diagnostic criteria. Postpartum PTSD can cause significant distress for both mothers and children, underscoring the importance of early identification and intervention. The City BiTS-Italian can aid in screening, research on intervention effectiveness, and international studies to enhance our knowledge of factors impacting postpartum well-being.
