What is it about?
This article is about threat or violence mitigation within the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA). This model invokes law enforcement officers as the group with the highest potential to prevent violence through use of de-escalation techniques. The initial feasibility and preliminary effectiveness of a nationwide (United States) program designed to enhance federal police officers’ response to veterans with mental illness was supported in the current study. Officers demonstrated improvements in relevant knowledge and skills, including increased awareness of mental health referrals.
