What is it about?
Immersive virtual reality (iVR) and augmented virtuality (AV) are new technological methods. In iVR and AV, participants are immersed in simulated, specific environments and situations. This paper examines the potential and limitations of these technologies in sport and performance psychology to train and research behavior, and provides recommendations for sport and performance psychologists who would like to integrate iVR and AV in their research.

Why is it important?
In the past, psychological research mostly relied on participants' self-reported data collected in lab settings. Now, with technologies like iVR and AV, researchers can create more realistic environments that allow them to study real behaviors instead of just self-reports. However, it is important to understand which research questions are suitable for using iVR/AV, and which are still not a good fit for these methods.
