What is it about?

Focus groups were conducted and a questionnaire was administered to assess perceptions of organizational culture amongst mental health providers at a large Veterans Affairs Hospital. Results suggested that customer service was a strength and that lack of recognition for hard working clinical staff and decisions being imposed from outside of the service were weaknesses.

Why is it important?

The exploration of perceived strengths and challenges offers opportunities to continue improving organization, workforce, and veteran health.

Perspectives

I found this quality improvement project important because burnout within mental health professionals and government employees is high and any information that we can obtain to improve workplace satisfaction and reduce burnout can have an impact on retaining talented and passionate mental health providers.
