What is it about?

Cognitive Behaviour Drama (CBD) is an intervention model specifically designed to address the needs of children and adolescents on the autism spectrum, incorporating concepts and techniques from behaviour and cognitive therapies into the art form of drama. In this study, the CBD model was implemented to treat a specific fear of a 6-year old boy diagnosed with autism.

Why is it important?

Through the use of the dramatic metaphore, the CBD method provides the most resistent children with the motivation to engage in the therapeutic process and the self confidence to confront their fears.

Perspectives

The dramatic metaphore minimizes resistance and allows the individuals to stay in treatment and work toward building intrinsic motivation to achieve the therapeutic objectives.
