What is it about?

This paper explores whether changes in or access to nicotine/tobacco products can affect psychological symptoms. Specifically, this study examines how reducing nicotine content in cigarettes, along with providing participants access to e-cigarettes, impacts symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Why is it important?

As the tobacco market continues to evolve, it will be necessary to monitor the impact of regulatory policies on various outcomes, including psychological symptoms. Our findings suggest that reducing nicotine content in cigarettes may slightly increase symptoms of depression and anxiety; however, providing access to e-cigarettes alongside reduced-nicotine-content cigarettes may help alleviate these symptoms.
