Why is it important?

Older adults are a growing portion of the population across the globe and have varied mental health needs, that include not just treatment of psychological disorders, but assistance coping with change, grief, chronic illness, and pain. It is important to know if approaches like ACT are effective for older adults.

Perspectives

Although we need more research on this topic, ACT showed promise in reducing distress and pain and improving quality of life for older adults. This review found that ACT has been used for older adults in many different countries reflecting diverse cultures, and that ACT has been used to address many different types of problems, from sleep to pain to age-related stereotypes.
