What is it about?

The study provides evidence that negative affect, as measured by the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule, decreases across the lifespan, whereas positive affect increases slightly until midlife and then decreases. Furthermore, positive and negative affect were negatively correlated, with the strength of the association decreasing from younger to older age into very old age, where the correlation became positive, suggesting that older adults increasingly avoid not only high-arousal negative experiences but also high-arousal positive experiences.
