What is it about?

Adverse childhood experiences -- such as abuse, neglect, or other traumatic events during early years -- have profound implications for the health and well-being of millions of working adults worldwide. However, in the organizational sciences almost no research has investigated how these past experiences impact individuals working lives. Through two studies, we've shown that childhood adversity directly and indirectly influences how workers feel about their jobs and how they behave at work. Our findings emphasize the importance of supporting adult survivors of childhood adversity. By focusing on healing and recovery, we can help these individuals overcome their past traumas and thrive both personally and professionally.
