What is it about?

Judges and lawmakers face growing scrutiny and complex demands. We surveyed nearly 5,000 U.S. adults to understand what the public believes judges should prioritize, what responsibilities they expect judges to fulfill, and what information they should use when making their decisions.

Why is it important?

Our findings challenge presumptions about public opinion. Respondents consistently prioritized due process, public safety, and rehabilitation over punishment. Responses also signaled strong public backing for evidence-based practices and suggested bipartisan agreement on core judicial values.
