What is it about?
Media influences peoples' attitudes and biases, which in turn impacts their support for discriminatory policies that harm Arabs and Muslims in the workplace and other institutions. Decades-long propaganda that associated Arabs and Muslims with terrorism has created a hostile environment towards these communities.

Why is it important?
This article reviews the media and sociopolitical phenomena that have created unique intersections of discrimination, racism, hatred, and fear towards Arabs and Muslims. This is particularly timely as an Israeli-American genocide of Palestinians has been raging since October 2023, and Israeli's have been illegally occupying parts of Lebanon and Syria. Despite the clarity of the legality of this occupation and genocide, the media continues to report Israel's genocide and occupation as a neutral political decision rather than international crimes and crimes against humanity. This reporting is normalized as Arabs and Muslims have been systemically dehumanized over the course of decades.
Perspectives
I hope this article serves to increase the understanding of how Arabs and Muslims have been intentionally vilified, and how this vilification and dehumanization results in widespread racism and discrimination that is uniquely experienced by these communities. Writing this article was a labor of grief and of love, and as always, I strive to create work towards aims of social justice and liberation.
