What is it about?

Despite increased access to effective treatment and organizational support, employees living with HIV still confront frequent and intense stigma for their medical status. Our research examines why and how stigmatized employees with HIV experience decreases in their job effectiveness. We also identify the psychological and physiological characteristics that might protect them from the threats arising from stigma.

Why is it important?

Our research shifts the scholarly conversation from a discussion of how organizational members stigmatize employees with HIV to how employees with HIV respond and overcome the stigma they face. Thus, our findings can be used to inform managers and policy experts in designing interventions to support employees with stigmatized medical conditions.
