Strategies to Improve Cervical Cancer Screening in Korean American Women

What is it about?

Researchers wanted to help Korean American women in the U.S. complete cervical cancer screening. They created a special program to educate women about cervical cancer and help them get screened. Women who received the special program learned more, felt more at risk for getting cervical cancer, and said there were fewer barriers to getting screened. What we learned was that providing extra help (in the form of navigation services) was the most important part for getting women screened.

Why is it important?

Cervical cancer screening can save lives, but Korean American women are less likely than other women to get screened for cervical cancer. Developing programs that can help Korean American women complete screening may lead to fewer cervical cancer deaths.
