What is it about?

This article is about global ocean color that is varied with space and time. We decomposed ocean color to seasonal cycle, climate-driven variability, and its statistical predictability during recent 24 years. The result represented the time delayed climate variability can provide a source of predictability in marine ecosystem.

Why is it important?

The chlorophyll concentration is a critical proxy for marine phytoplankton biomass that has been utilized for validating earth system model fidelity and its prediction skill assessment for marine ecosystem. First and second order chlorophyll variation using updated satellite timeseries are revisited in global ocean here so that helps to develop advances of earth system model coupled with interannual climate variabilities.

Perspectives

Time evolution of ocean memory has been saved in sea surface temperature anomalies (SSTa) in previous calendar month. Time delayed SSTa can be an predictor of chlorophyll anomalies, that will provide a source of predictability in marine ecosystem of earth system models.
