What is it about?
The major components of the ocean circulation in the Gulf of Mexico are the Loop Current (LC), one of the fastest currents in the Atlantic, and the large eddies that detach from it (called LCEs). This numerical study analyzes the relationships between the upper stratification and the water transport entering the Gulf with different characteristics of the LC and LCEs. Also, we study the response of the LC and LCEs under climate change scenarios considering increased upper stratification and reduced water transport.

Why is it important?
In order to understand the changes in the physical, chemical, biological, and economic processes in the Gulf of Mexico, it is necessary to study its ocean circulation under the current and future conditions associated with climate change.
