What is it about?
Heart Rate Variability (HRV) is used as a measure to reflect both a healthy and pathological state. We were interested in whether daily measures of HRV change over the course of the menstrual cycle (MC) in healthy athletic females. We found that changes in HRV corresponded to the progesterone peak in the luteal phase of the MC.

Why is it important?
The MC is a natural process that ebbs and flows with the physiological state of the individual. Therefore it should not be a major barrier to the inclusion of women in sport and health research.
