What is it about?

Contrast agents used for radiological purpose are frequently causes of acute kidney damage. In this study, vitamin E, possibly for its anti-oxidant effect, has been demonstrated to be able to reduce consistently the risk of developing contrast-induced nephropathy.

Why is it important?

Our findings suggest a simple and unexpensive tool to prevent a serious side effect of radiological procedures.

Perspectives

Our data suggest preliminarly a role of vitamin E particularly evident in diabetic patients. Future studies are needed to address this question in a particular vulneable subgroup of patients.
