What is it about?
Up to 10 years ago the same drugs for Inhalation were used to treat COPD and Asthma. However, there is evidence that ICS in COPD may increase the incidence of pneumonia. The IMPACT Trial has showed that ICS may lead to an Overall benefit in COPD when a significant blood eosinophilia is around.

From now on it is important to measure blood eosinophils in exacerbation of any obstructive airway disease. Only with this tool Asthma COPD Overlap and the right COPD-Patient deserving ICS may be identified
