What is it about?
Cyclopentadienyl anion (Cp-) is a versatile ligand in organometallic chemistry. Quantum chemical study reveals that the phosphorus analogues of Cp- retain more than 86.0% aromaticity relative to Cp-. A rather dramatic result is that the pentaphosphorus analogue P5- is as aromatic as the carbocyclic cyclopentadienyl anion

Why is it important?
The present work is the first systematic study of aromaticity in the phosphorus analogues of cyclopentadienyl anion aimed at explaining the capability of these species to participate as ligands in the formation of organometallic complexes.
