What is it about?
We studied the conversion of fructose, glucose and sucrose into 5-HMF, using different ionic liquids binary mixtures as solvents and HY zeolite as catalyst. We studied the optimal reaction conditions and the effect of different Il mixtures, finding very good yileds at the tempearture of 80°C. We then studied the conversion of fructose under probe sonication.

Why is it important?
We obtained very good yields especially under sonication with a 71% of yield in only 0.5 h, at a much lower temperature compared with silent conditions, with an overall energy saving of 99%.
