What is it about?
We have found that resistance to an antibiotic that imposes a large fitness cost on the bacteria impedes their ability to evolve resistance to other antibiotics. However, selecting the appropriate first antibiotic is key.

Antibiotic resistance has become a global healthcare crisis, threatening our access to modern healthcare. Our study showcases how we can use laboratory evolutions to understand the evolutionary trade-offs associated with antibiotic resistance, and exploit them to slow down evolution.
