What is it about?
We found that adding a small amount of cesium to the LiF-NaF-KF (FLiNaK) model nuclear salt changes the character of the melting transition. We also confirmed our molecular-dynamic simulations of molten FLiNaK with and without CsF by X-ray diffraction.

Why is it important?
FLiNaK is a model salt that is used to understand the changing properties of molten salts employed in future molten-salt nuclear reactors. The dissolution of nuclear fuels leads to the formation of fission products directly in the molten salt. Cs is one of the most important fission products, due to its relative abundance, the long half-life, and potential environmental and health effects. Therefore, understanding the behavior of Cs in molten fluorides is important.
