What is it about?

synthesis and characterization of polymeric PLGA nanoparticles (NPs) that are surface decorated with sugar-based ligand, and that can be used as smart nano-biomedical-devices for targeted drug delivery to tumor cells

Why is it important?

Targeting the nanodevice to specific tissue such as a tumor, is particularly important when highly cytotoxic drugs, such as those used in chemotherapy treatments are used. The insertion of the drug in a nanocarrier, reaching preferentially tumor tissue, can reduced the severe side effects and cytotoxicity toward healthy tissue.
