What is it about?
An optical antenna is presented, which is made from a single gold crystal and electrically contacted in a way that makes it free floating. Applying a voltage allows to increase the distance between the two antenna arms and thus alter the optical properties reversibly.

Why is it important?
Switching optical properties with an electric voltage is a key to novel electro-optical applications and sensing. The unique mechanic control mechanism is also interesting for opto-mechanics.
