Mechanism of Initial Stage of Pore Formation Induced by Antimicrobial Peptide Magainin 2

What is it about?

In this paper,  we investigated the effect on magainin 2-induced pore formation of asymmetric lipid distribution in two monolayers inducing asymmetric lipid packing. We constructed a quantitative model of magainin 2-induced pore formation, which explains quantitatively the experimental relationship between the rate constant of magainin 2-induced pore fromation, kp, and magainin 2 surface concentration, X.  The GUVs with asymmetric distribution of lipids can be used in the estimation of the rate of transbilayer movement of lipids.
