What is it about?
Using the technique of quantifying the oxidation levesl that we established previously, we investigated in detail the thermoelectric properties of PEDOT: PSS, which is the conducting polymer most studied in the field of organic thermoelectric materials. The oxidation levels of PEDOT:PSS were well-controlled by controlling the oxidation potentials using the electrochemical method, and quantified by the chronocoulometry. And these electrical conductivities and Seebeck coefficients were measured, and their correlation with the oxidation levels was analyzed.

Why is it important?
Because the history of organic thermoelectric materials are still too short, the mechanism of Seebeck effect of conducting polymers is not well-understood. We are investigating the correlation between thermoelectric properties of conducting polymers and their oxidation (doping) levels. These results will give useful information to understand the mechanism of the Seebeck effect of conducting polymers, and also give useful information about the material design for the high-performance organic thermoelectric materials.
