What is it about?
In the publication we have shown that double benzannulation is a method of choice to tune proerties (red-shift) of the fluorophore and to rigidify the molecular structure. The rigidification is seen in absorption spectra as a single band with subtle structure.

Why is it important?
The paper, in our opinion, is important because it sown the benzannulation and substituent effect cam be used in fluorophore design. Moreover, it is often hard or impossible to synthesize doubly benzannulated BODIPY dyes due to their topology. The change to all-six-membered ring fluorophores opens new opportunities in their research.
