Selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs), which release nitric oxide (•NO), improve desired antitumor effects and minimize unwanted side effects on the vascular system. The use of these bifunctional drugs (NO-SERMs) promises a possible improvement of the therapeutic index in breast cancer treatment.
