Why is it important?

heuristic model to translate knowledge about depression to clinical and managerial decision makers

Perspectives

Depression as a disease remain constructed in clinical and public world as an acute disorder, rather than a chronic disorder with episodic flare-ups. Also, the relationship with other common chronic disorders (i.e. diabetes) is seen as a reaction to the later or a partial consequence of depression- they may share common etiological pathways. Good chronic disease management principles and evidence-based specific treatments shall apply and benifit for the therapeutic management of depression and co-morbid common chronic disorders.
