What is it about?

One strategy to improve overall health and dietary habits is to increase knowledge about nutrition. We have proposed a more accurate measure of nutrition knowledge based on the Item Response Theory and analysed the performance of the new tool in associations with food consumption and nutritional biomarkers.

Why is it important?

The Item Response Theory provides information of the quality of items to discriminate the latent trace and the accuracy of the scores across the levels of nutritional knowledge. The new tool gathers items with the best quality to assess the nutrition knowledge. The associations with food consumption and nutritional biomarkers state the validity of the new tool.

Perspectives

I hope this article spreads the methodology to develop quality instruments as well as the tool to evaluate the nutritional knowledge in future studies.
