What is it about?

The origins of OCD remain a mystery, although the International Cognitions Working Group suggested 7 routes to increased responsibility. This study reports on the events that made adolescents with OCD develop the disorder. Traumatic events seem to be key to understanding how the responsibility cognitions develop.

Why is it important?

This is the first interview based study of the events leading up to the development of OCD using the framework proposed by the OCD cognitions working group.

Perspectives

Although this is quite a small study it reinforces the developing view that traumatic events can precipitate OCD, through increasing perceived repsonsiblity.
