What is it about?
Development of human babies in the first year of life become through a discontinues process. Regressive periods ara described along specific weeks in which the mother describes her baby as "more difficult". Seems that in these weeks the baby activate the attachment behaviour in ordre to obtain the physical contact and proximity of the mother. The basic idea is that regressive periods are linked to brain changes and shifts in the emergence of news skills and psychological development.

Why is it important?
Regression periods could be thinked as a "hallmark" of the next development step and could help us to understand the affective mechanisms and process underlying sociocognitive development. At the other hand these moments of difficulties are experienced by the mothers according to their interactive style and internal attachment working model. The disrupted behaviour of the child could be feel as a conflictive for some mothers and fathers and could be a risk factor in cases of child maltreatment.
