What is it about?

Ethnographic analogy is helpful for archaeological interpretation. Pottery making is one of the most important activities in the archaeological record in Mesoamérica, but we have little comparative data to understand this criticl aspect of ancient life in Mesoamérica. This study uses ethnographic and ethnohistorical, as well as archaeological perspectives to complement the extant archaeological information.

Why is it important?

This research is important because it bridges a gap in our understanding of Mesoamerican technology and culture. primarily pottery production, household activities and family relationships. These aspects of a Mesoamerican community are examined from several angles and constitute a first step toward the identification of cultural patterns and traditions.

Perspectives

Ethnoarchaeology brings together ethnographic data (systemic context) and archaeological interpretations (archaeological context). Ethnohistory brings to life the past activities of people (social actors) in a región of Mesoamérica, formerly part of the Tarascan Empire.
