When Spanos contributed a BBS target article on hypnosis, I saw the opportunity to contribute a commentary that would highlight the central role of Absorption as driving factor in the type of trait-context interaction underlying the induction of an altered state of consciousness (including that of the hypnotic state). I have returned to the study of both Absorption and of trait-context interactions over the years, each time with increasing depth of analysis.
