What is it about?
Some evidence suggested that calcium uptake in dogs may be different to other species. Measuring as many metabolites as possible we wanted to identify any unforeseen effects in adult dogs fed diets differing in dietary Ca and found nothing of concern. We did, however, find that individual dogs seemed to have stable levels of metabolites over time and secondly, after a meal there are many, and varied, changes in metabolite levels, dependent on which metabolites one measures.

Why is it important?
We set out to identify if dietary calcium fed at levels currently recommended were of any health concern to adult dogs by measuring as many metabolites as possible across a range of metabolic functions. We found no evidence to suggest a concern, supporting the conclusions of our previous, hypothesis-led work.
