What is it about?

How do women and men differ in their use of question tags (such as 'isn't it')? The article analyses this question using different statistical methods. We find that different group settings (such as all-men, all-women) have an impact on question tag usage.

Why is it important?

We show that tag questions are crucially an interactional feature. In the context of the data we used, group setting plays an important role in the selection and frequency of tag questions. Furthermore, we argue that looking beyond the binary in analysing tag questions will open up important avenues for research.
