What is it about?
There are multiple insults to the male genital tract that have been associated with an increased risk of antisperm antibody formation. The most common of these is vasectomy. We prospectively investigated the incidence of antisperm antibodies in hydrocelectomized men and studied the effects of antisperm antibodies in semen characteristics.

Why is it important?
The etiology of antibody formation in patients with a history of hydrocelectomy is uncertain. Disruption of the blood-testis barrier is believed to lead to exposure of sperm antigens to the immune system and production of antisperm antibodies.
