What is it about?

Coumestrol is found in plants that are consumed by humans, cows, sheep and other animals. Coumestrol acts like an estradiol, the main estrogen in humans and other animals. We investigated the molecular interaction of coumestrol with the protein in humans that mediates the actions of estradiol.

Why is it important?

This is the first report of the molecular interaction of coumestrol with the estrogen receptor and the first analysis of how this interaction compares to the interaction of estradiol with the estrogen receptor.
