Model-based small area estimates under spatial association improved the precision of direct survey estimates of undernutrition. Zonal level undernutrition estimates can be helpful for resource allocation, policymakers, and planners.

Why is it important?

The work employed spatial information across areas in the general FH model to further improve the precision of direct design-based estimates. Thus, the findings show that spatial information is better than the FH model that excludes it.
