Prescribing lower doses of drugs can reduce their impact on the environment

What is it about?

This article examines an approach never before considered for reducing the entry to the environment of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) from the use of medications. On-label (approved) doses for many drugs can be substantially reduced. Lower doses can reduce the excretion of API residues as well as the generation of medication waste (because of improved patient compliance).
