What is it about?
Haemodynamic changes during two surgical methods for neutering female dogs were compared, laparoscopic versus open abdomen. Blood pressure increase at removal of ovaries in the open group was greater compared to the laparoscopic group.

Why is it important?
The difference in increase of blood pressure at ovary removal would indicate greater noxious stimuli, greater traction to the ovarian pedicle, in the open abdomen group. This may be the mechanism why there is a difference in postoperative pain between the techniques.
