What is it about?
This paper gathers the perspective of patients and physicians across four countries to understand treatment goals and actions. It was found that most physicians prioritized managing asthma symptoms over exacerbations. This international survey showed that 89% of more than 800 physicians asked about MART therapy described a prescription that was faulty. There is also considerable misuse of treatment in patients who reported using their daily maintenance inhaler for quick relief of symptoms rather than an as-needed reliever.

Informed patients and providers can reduce symptoms and exacerbation. Practical strategies are required to implement GINA recommendations effectively in real-world clinical practice. Work is needed to identify appropriate patients for MART and the implications of inhaled steroids and an airway opener.
