What is it about?
This study presents finite element simulations of cutting force, torque, and temperature in drilling of Inconel 718 superalloy. The FEM simulations were conducted at a cutting speed of 15 m/min and feed of 0.02 mm/rev using an uncoated solid carbide drill. The predicted cutting forces, torques and cutting temperatures were validated with the experimental results. It was observed that a good agreement was achieved between the predicted and measured force, torque and temperature values. The 3D simulation model thus can be used confidently for future planned investigations and efficient optimization of processes and tools.
