What is it about?

The paper adds a rare glycoprotein bioemulsifierr to the growing list of bioemulsifiers. The ability of this rare proteinaceous bioemulsifier in producing strong emulsion with different hydrocarbons and oils is a rarity among the known bioemulsifiers. Hence, this thermostable bioemulsifier can find its application in many industrial processes.

Why is it important?

This is the first report of a bioemulsifier produced by Solibacillus genus. The bioemulsifier was found to be thermostable, salt tolerant, active in wide pH and versatile in emulsifying aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons as well as oils. It demonstrated enhanced emulsion stability than Emulsan (a well studied bioemulisifier).
