Why is it important?
Calculation complexity of recurrence quantification is high, resulting in quadratic growth of calculation time. This is important for long time series. Calculation time could be reduced by parallelisation of computer code, or, as in this paper, by approximation. The speedup by approximation is more than 3 magnitudes!
