What is it about?

The study investigates factors affecting COVID-19 vaccine adherence among Indonesian adolescents. It reveals that knowledge, comorbidity status, belief, and attitude towards the vaccine significantly influence vaccine adherence. Interestingly, this influence varies across different regions in Indonesia. In Maluku-Papua Islands, comorbidity, belief, and attitude negatively mediate between knowledge and vaccine adherence. In contrast, Java Island shows a positive mediation effect. These findings highlight the importance of tailored health communication strategies to address regional differences in vaccine acceptance among adolescents in Indonesia.

Why is it important?

This research is unique and timely as it addresses the critical issue of COVID-19 vaccine adherence among Indonesian adolescents, a key demographic in pandemic control. Unlike other studies, it differentiates between regions, uncovering the varied impact of factors like knowledge, beliefs, and comorbidities on vaccine acceptance in the Maluku-Papua Islands and Java Island. This regional analysis is vital for devising effective, tailored health communication strategies. Understanding these regional differences is crucial in enhancing vaccine uptake among young people, significantly impacting public health efforts in Indonesia and similar contexts globally.
