What is it about?
Considering the Dark Triad, both subclinical psychoapthy (in the form of psychopathy or Antisocial Personality Disorder) and subclinical narcissism (in the form of Narcissistic Personality Disorder) have their clinical counterparts. This study tested whether elements of Borderline Personality Organization (BPO; a psychodynamic conceptualization of dysfunctional personalty organization) could be associated with Machiavellianism in a community sample. Results showed that pronounced BPO charateristics prediceted Machiavellian (manipulative, deceitful) interpersonal tactics. Results were discussed from an adaptationist view (how these otherwise pathological traits might contribute to the exploitative strategies of Machiavellian individuals?).

Why is it important?
The research fits well with the current dimensional view of personality problems, even with the use of a psychodynamic concept (Borderline Personality Organization).
